Streambank Stablilization and Riparian Enhancement Workshop: Belmont SWCD
Streambank Stabilization and Riparian Enhancement Workshop
Tuesday, June 30th
8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Stillwater Science Center
998 Shamrock Drive
This free, full-day workshop will be led by an experienced stream restoration expert, Joel Bingham of EnviroScience, Inc. Topics will include stream physical forms and functions and the application of this information to develop stream restoration and enhancement projects to benefit watersheds and communities. Participants will consider how streambank stabilization issues in particular can negatively affect the use of water resources for landowners, communities, and wildlife. Participants will improve their ability to recognize the symptoms of streambank erosion in order to better identify problems. The use of watershed-based planning will be investigated as a tool to determine the historic and root causes of water quality problems. An overview of problem assessment, restoration planning, and project implementation (including fundraising, design, permitting, construction, vegetative planting and monitoring) will also be included in this educational workshop.
Lunch will be provided. Belmont SWCD has received an Ohio Environmental Education Fund grant for this workshop, and local sponsorship is provided by the Captina Conservancy and Belmont SWCD.
If interested, please call Belmont SWCD at 740-526-0027 for more details or to RSVP by June 23rd.
